Getting around Winnipeg
Here are options for getting around Winnipeg:
Winnipeg car rentals
Getting around Winnipeg by Taxi
You won’t be able to hail a cab on Winnipeg streets. Here, when you need a cab, you phone for it, but you will generally also find cabs waiting for business at stands in front of major hotels.
Travel costs are clearly posted. All cab drivers accept cash, debit and credit cards (VISA and MasterCard are the most widely accepted).
Winnipeg’s four major cab companies all offer both conventional and wheelchair service:
Unicity Taxi, 925-3131.
Duffy’s Taxi has a fleet of more than 150 Hybrid vehicles that, they claim, is the largest in North America (but these very fuel-efficient cars are also sub-compact. If you’re big, tall, or both, be warned), 925-0101.
Blueline Taxi, also has limousine and executive car services, 925-8887.
Spring Taxi, 774-8294.
Another option for people who use a wheelchair is Dependable Dispatch Wheelchair Transportation, 925-8885.

Getting around Winnipeg by Water Taxi
From June to mid-October, Splash Dash Water Bus Service offers a unique way to get around town by boat with docks at The Forks, St. Boniface Cathedral, Manitoba Legislature, Waterfront Drive, Osborne Village, Fort Gibraltar and several other points along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.
Pick-up is every 15 minutes and fare is $3 cash, or $15 for an all-day pass.
Splash Dash operates daily in summer; weekends only after Sept. 1.
Getting around Winnipeg -- Take the bus!
The cheapest way to get from here to there in Winnipeg is on the bus.
Fare is cash only (drivers don’t have change) -- $2.30 for adults, $1.60 for children and teens ages 6 to 16, and free for children age 5 and under with an adult.
Buy bus tickets in advance for an even better deal – 10 adult tickets for $20. You can get them at Safeway grocery stores and convenience stores.
Winnipeg Transit has a nifty trip planner online. You type in where you are now, where you want to go, and when you want to leave or arrive and it gives you four trip options -- what bus to catch, how long the trip will take, transfers if necessary (ask for a transfer slip when you board) and gives you clear maps (so you never end up waiting at the wrong stop).
