Winnipeg Convention Centre

What is it that makes Winnipeg Convention Centre one of the favourites among events managers and planners?

Cold in winter, hot in summer, vibrant cultural scene, Chicago of the North, jumping off point to fish, hunt, see polar bears …

These are some of the top-of-mind images among people who haven’t visited Winnipeg yet.

So why come here for a conference?

The short answer is friendly welcome and great services, venues and amenities, all in the continent's most convenient location for presentors, exhibitors and participants from anywhere in North and Central America.

As the city closest to the centre of both Canada and North America, and with an international airport, Winnipeg is not hard to get to AND is central for everyone coming to your conference.

Though Winnipeg is a small city, with less than a million people living here, it has great diversity and plenty of choice in restaurants offering every type of cuisine, business class hotels plus just about all the amenities you would expect to find in any major North American city, but with a warm Prairie welcome and a lot less traffic!

Another advantage is that both the airport and the major trade show and convention venue, Winnipeg Convention Centre, are right in the city.

It is just 25 minutes (or less) to get from the airport to Winnipeg Convention Centre’s centre-of-downtown location.

Winnipeg Convention Centre is known for being large, convenient, and central

On three levels, it has a variety of meeting rooms, banquet rooms (capable of serving up to 5,000 guests) and a presentation theatre.

There are also service businesses including a café and hair salon.

Like all public indoor spaces (as well as restaurants and bars) in Manitoba, it is non-smoking.

The easiest (and most accessible) entrance is the main one, on York Ave, which is directly across the street from outdoor city parking. There are also two levels of underground parking ($10 per day; $6 for the evening).

What’s nearby?

Hotels Delta Winnipeg is the closest, connected by a skywalk to Winnipeg Convention Centre (opens in a new window). Within three blocks are Place Louis Riel Suites Hotel, and a budget option, Carlton Inn. Within 5 blocks are two notable heritage hotels with updated, executive style rooms and suites, Radisson Hotel & Suites and The Fort Garry Hotel.

Restaurants There are a few fast food outlets in and near the convention centre. Winnipeg’s major downtown restaurants are within a few blocks.

Shopping

The Bay, Portage Place and (the closest), cityplace mall.

Nearby attractions include: The Forks, Centennial Hall and the theatre district, historic Exchange District, MTS Centre for Moose hockey and concerts, Manitoba Legislative Building and gardens, and Winnipeg Art Gallery.
