Winnipeg sports fans have plenty of choice, with professional hockey, football, baseball and horseracing.
And there’s more pro and high-performance amateur sports action including university baseball, volleyball, competitive swimming and more sports and Team Canada Women’s Volleyball, our Olympic team program, is based in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg fans keep asking (and hoping, and talking about) the city having an NHL team once again. The late, lamented Jets departed more than a decade ago and ever since, that question has hung in the air. Now it's part of the the local mindset. It’s like asking Is there an afterlife? or Will the Red River flood this spring?
And the Winnipeg response? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see…)
So, who knows, there may (or may not) be drama on the horizon. Meanwhile, what we do get to enjoy in the here-and-now are:

From October to April, Winnipeg sports fans flock to see the AHL Manitoba Moose play Our Game on home ice at
MTS Centre

Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Canadian Football League
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
have been to ten Grey Cups in their 75-year history.
They play June through November at Canad Inns Stadium, just north of Polo Park at 1465 Maroons Road.
Winnipeg Goldeyes
The Fish play ball at their grand old stadium, Canwest Park. Just north of The Forks at One Portage Ave. East in The Exchange District.

Assiniboia Downs
Is the live thoroughbred race track. The Season is May to November.
The VLT gaming Lounge and simulcast wagering on televised races from Canada, the U.S. and Australia are open year-round.
Assiniboia Downs is also the place to get one of the city’s best

with a unique benefit – a stable tour to meet the thoroughbreds is included.

Team Canada Volleyball
Team Canada Women’s Volleyball not only makes its home here, offering opportunities to see Canadian and internationally top-ranked volleyball athletes, this is also the training and administration base for indoor women’s national volleyball.
Team Canada hosts elite international competitions in Winnipeg and in Manitoba throughout the year.

University of Manitoba BISONS
For sheer young talent, and perhaps to get a glimpse of the future pro stars, and also for the best sports entertainment deals in town, Winnipeg sports fans have university sports. During the academic year, you get major entertainment for minor ticket prices, or free, when you cheer on 16 University of Manitoba Bisons teams.
Football, hockey, competitive swimming and other sports, with play most weekends September through March at the University’s Fort Garry campus, just east of Pembina in Fort Garry.

University of Winnipeg WESMEN
Men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball, September to March, on University of Winnipeg’s downtown campus (on Portage at Memorial) at Duckworth Centre, 400 Spence Street.
Thrilling young players, close to all the downtown hotels, and admission is cheap or free.
