Where to toboggan in Winnipeg

Here are the places with toboggan hills and winter slides you can play on for free if you’ve got your own sled.

All have convenient (also free) parking:

Toboggan at The Forks

The Forks has a toboggan slide off what they call a small tower, still higher than most others listed here. It’s next to Snowboard Fun Park and the big skating rink in front of ScotiaBank Stage.

In addition to all the other things there are to do at The Forks (indoors as well as outdoors), advantages here are The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal to warm up and also lots of choice for a snack or a meal.

The Forks is at the centre of Winnipeg, where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet.

Harbour View Recreation Complex

Harbour View is at Kilcona Park, east of downtown in Transcona.

Hill and also ice skating on the lake, cross-country skiing and boomball.

There is a warm-up area, but although this slide is open until 10 p.m. every night, there is no night lighting.

At 1867 Springfield Road.

Kildonan Park

Another beautiful riverside park that is also close to downtown, Kildonan Park has two winter slides and also a skating pond.

Night lighting, warm-up area and washrooms in the Pavillion.

From downtown, go north to 2015 Main Street.

Assiniboine Park

West of downtown, Assiniboine Park has 3 winter slides next to a small skating rink and a change room/warm-up building (in summer, it’s the enclosed picnic shelter) with vending machine hot drinks and snacks.

Near the Duck Pond, which transforms to a small frozen lake for skating in winter. Also a short walk to the Zoo, which is open year-round.

Lit at night for sledding until 10 p.m. daily.

St. Vital Park

Scenic St. Vital Park has two winter slides and near-by warm-up area with washrooms. 190 River Road.

Whittier Park

Whittier Park, next to Fort Gibraltar in Saint Boniface, has a winter slide, but it is open only during Festival du Voyageur, the annual winter festival in February.

Waterfront Drive

There is a winter slide on Waterfront Drive at George Street; however it has no warm-up or other facilities near-by.

More winter slides

There are also winter slides in these parks, but they have few or no extras:

  • Civic Park, Kimberly Avenue and London Street. Toboggan hill. Open until 10 p.m. but no lighting or shelter.

  • Crocus Park at Redonda Street and Victoria Avenue East. Same as Civic Park.

  • Westview Park at 1 Midland Street. Hill, shelter and washrooms but no night lighting.

  • More city parks with winter slides are: Crescent Drive Park, Crescentwood Community Centre, Bunn’s Creek Park, Fraser’s Grove Park, Glenlee Community Centre/Trafford Park, Roblin Park Community Centre and Whyteridge Community Centre.
